Montessori History: Children working with The Chains

These children are adding tags to what appears to be the Thousand Chain, for linear counting in the Montessori Primary and Lower Elementary environments. This work leads to skip counting forward and backward and a sensorial impression of squaring, cubing, and multiplication. Currently, this work is typically done in full length without bending the linear progression, but these children do not seem bothered by their smaller space.
